  • Material: 1) 1 male holotype, 1 female allotype Sobasina sp n 9 Berry, Beatty et Proszynski. Fiji, Viti Levu: Mt. Tomanivi, 1320 m., summit moss for., moss litter, 20. VIII. 1978. S. & J. Peck. Coll. AMNH - New York. 2) 3 males, 2 females - paratypes, 5 imm. Sobasina sp n 9 Berry, Beatty et Proszynski. Fiji, Viti Levu: Mt. Tomanivi, 1320 m., summit moss for., moss litter, 20. VIII. 1978. Etymology: name reflects very unusual for Sobasina shape of the body.

Diagnosis. Not ant like, resembling Coccorchestes by very strongly sclerotized tegument of cephalothorax, with rows of circular punctures. Differs from Coccorchestes by the shape of posterior cephalothorax, with posterior edge coming below anterior abdomen. Eye field puncturated, pedicel hidden beneath abdomen, constrictions absent, tibia I with 4 pairs of ventral spines, without crest, its width being 33-35%, width of femur I 44-46% of length of respective segment.

    MALE and FEMALE.

Cephalothorax with prominent, steep anterior slope of the eye field between ALE, ALE are located strikingly above AME (not so striking in females), dorsum levels at about the eyes II and continues flat until thoracal hind end, narrowing posteriorly but without any dorsal constriction or depression; tegument of cephalothorax strongly sclerotized, with rows of circular pits. Pedicel arises from cephalothorax very dorsally. Abdomen oval, broad, dorsally slightly flattened, without any traces of constriction, neither dorsal nor lateral, there are two diagonal rows of whitish scales along anterior part of sides of abdomen; poor preservation, soft tissues separated from tegument. Palpal organ in all specimens expanded and inflated because of poor preservation, typical for Sobasina. On the drawing shown optically shortened, in postero-lateral position, with bulbus expanded. Tibia I with 4 pairs of prominent ventral spines, metatarsus I with 3 pairs of spines.
