ETYMOLOGY. Named for Krzysztof [= Christopher] Proszynski: born in Auschwitz
Konzentrationslager (= Auschwitz Concentration Camp) in January 1945; died of
hunger six days later, after the death of his mother, Pia Proszynska, exhausted
by childbirth. Pia had been carried off by Nazi Germans to the Auschwitz Camp
during the pacification of the Warsaw Uprising (August-September 1944), together
with the majority of the civilian population of the Warsaw's Ochota Quarter;
Krzysztof was a first cousin of the author.
