Group of genera Sitticeae (Simon, 1901) = Subfam. Sitticinae (Simon, 1901) (Petrunkevitch 1928: 205)

 S. Simon 19O1: 577;  Petrunkevitch 1928: 205; Proszynski 1976: 17
 S.: Galiano 1987: 157 (includes genera Ailluticus, Jollas, Pseudattulus, Semiopyla, Sitticus and Tomis - Galiano's view).
 S.: Maddison, Hedin 2003: 541-542 - a part of larger group Amycoida (which undergone single radiation in,
       Neotropics and from which only Sitticus reached Palaearctics).

Gen. Sitticus Simon, 1901

type: terebratus

Synonymic names ----------------------------------------------------------------------
S.: Proszynski 1968d: 391-407 (terebratus group);
S.: Proszynski 1971a: 183-204 (saxicola group);
S.: Proszynski 1973a: 71-95 (penicillatus group);
S.: Harm 1973: 370-372 (C European species);
S.: Proszynski 1980b: 1-35 (floricola group);
S.: Proszynski 1983a: 161-179, f 1-15, [including 13 maps] (N: phyletic tree, geographical distribution and its presumed history);
S.: Proszynski 1987: 85-101 (remaining species - f only).

NB. Relationships between Attulus Simon, 1889 and Sitticus Simon, 1901 are set provisionally by the relevant research during 1960ties-1980ties. Owing to common usage of name Sitticus it seems not advisable to replace it by relatively much less used Attulus. Pending further research, it is proposed now [in 1980ties] by mutual agreement of concerned specialists (M.E. Galiano, J. Proszynski, fR. Wanless) to delay any changes in names of these taxa until further studies will permit either to separate a natural group of species related to A. helveolus as revived genus Attulus sensu novo, leaving remainig species within Sitticus, or to rename all Sitticus following the priority rule. We do strongly object, however, to sumarily change of names prior to completion of the above mentioned research. J.Proszynski.
