Diagnoses of genera of South East Asia: Smart and/or furry salticids. Found in warm, stony or bare areas. Genus: Phlegra. Our three species of Phlegra are known only from males. There is no recent information about the two species from Hong Kong, but the male of P. pisarskii was described by Zabka in 1985. The general shape is not mentioned, but typically in plan, Phlegra is similar to Aelurillus, but the spider is longer and not as squat. The carapace of P. pisarskii is slightly longer than the abdomen. The carapace is brown with the eye field black-brown. There are two, parallel, longitudinal lines, pale whitish-grey streaks on the thorax and along the lateral margins. The abdomen is grey brown to dark grey in colour with orange spots anteriorly. These gradually change to grey, posteriorly, and vanish. Legs are greyish-dark brown in colour and carry numerous light brown spines. Distribution: Phlegra is widespread in the Palaearctic and in Africa. In south east Asia it is known only from Vietnam and Hong Kong. The well known P.fasciata even occurs in the USA.
